Liam Gallagher winds up Liverpool claiming Oasis ‘put the Beatles back on the map’

Or at the very least, a legion of football fans. The Oasis rocker, 54, is known for being very active on X, where he likes to share his opinion on all manner of things – as well as tease his fans over that long-awaited 2027 tour confirmation with brother Noel Gallagher, off the back of their Disney Plus reunion documentary. But Tuesday morning saw him unable to resist defending his club Manchester City once again, after they were found guilty by the Premier League of all charges related to serious breaches of its financial rules. The club is now appealing this bombshell verdict. Liam’s recent social media output has targeted rival Liverpool FC fans in particular, with whom he was spoiling for a spat. And the singer knew where to hit Liverpudlians hardest. (Picture: Karwai Tang/WireImage) ‘All these Scousers giving me and my band s**t, OASIS have done more for the city of Liverpool than they will ever do,’ he began, before truly putting the cat among the pigeons by adding: ‘OASIS put the BEATLES back on the map which they no doubt directly profit from UNGRATEFUL little SODS [sic.].’ He then signed off with a ‘MCFC’ and his usual ‘LG x’. The comebacks were swift and rather devastating. ‘TBF Liam, if it wasn’t for the Beatles you’d be working in Home Bargains…’ tweeted Phil Gwilliam, while another fan added: ‘Without the Beatles, your band wouldn’t even exist mate.’ (Picture: AP) ‘Claiming you put The Beatles back on the map is some serious reaching. They never fell off it,’ argued Paul. ‘Time to have a lie down. Also – The Real People would like a word,’ wrote Gareth Roberts, referring to the English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1986, who were instrumental in helping Oasis record the demo that landed them their record deal. ‘Just for the record the Spice Girls cracked America harder than Oasis ever did. Let that sink in before you start putting yourselves in the same f**king sentence as The Beatles,’ warned @Boss_Tha. But others saw the funny side of it, and Liam’s penchant for stirring up drama online.
