SERIAL killer Levi Bellfield will be quizzed over his confessions to the murders of Lin and Megan Russell who were bludgeoned to death in 1996, the Sun on Sunday can reveal. Officials from the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) plan to question Bellfield, 58, over the killing of the mum and daughter and take a DNA sample from him. There are growing doubts about his conviction, and the CCRC is reviewing his case. The probe into Bellfield comes more than four years after we exclusively revealed his four-page confession in February 2022. The fiend — serving life for murdering two young women and schoolgirl Milly Dowler — said in the statement: “I was wearing bright yellow Marigold washing-up gloves and holding a hammer in my right hand. “In my car I had a screwdriver, a lock knife, a hammer, yellow Marigold gloves and a very long black bootlace. “My first intention was to just attack Lin, but I quickly changed my mind due to the screams and was worried she would fight back given the children were with her. “I approached Lin and held her right arm tight.” Most read in The Sun Stone was found guilty despite no forensic evidence linking him to the scene Credit: Getty Police officers at the scene in Chillenden, Kent Credit: PA:Press Association After Bellfield made his confession, he reportedly retracted it — before admitting the attacks in a further signed statement in 2023. The CCRC, which can order retrials, will visit Bellfield at HMP Frankland, Co Durham, within weeks. A source said: “They want to ask him why he was in Kent and why he has retracted confessions in the past.”
