I wonder if there is a precedent in other official presidential utterances for Donald Trump’s recent profane threat to Iran. Imagine inserting Trump’s obscenity into Abraham Lincoln’s second inaugural address: “Fondly do we hope — fervently do we pray — that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away.”
