Letter: Keiki deserve healthy food, no carcinogens

There’s an epidemic of colon cancer in young people, and we can do something about it. House Concurrent Resolution 84 asks Hawaii’s Department of Education (DOE) to plan to remove carcinogens from public school lunches. Processed meat, a Group 1 carcinogen, is regularly served in school meals. The plan would remove processed meat by 2032, or offer minimally processed, scratch‑made or plant‑based alternatives.
