Letter: Hawaii County needs real sustainability
Hawaii County Council’s emphasis on climate change and sustainability in its proposed General Plan 2045 is commendable. But comparing sustainability to malama aina is more than following environmentally friendly practices, including transitioning away from fossil fuels. It is a deep-rooted set of values, goals and ways of life in which we cultivate abundance working with the natural world, not extracting ever more from it and monetizing it.
