STEPHEN BUNTING has hailed Luke Littler as an “ALIEN” but has cast doubt on his bid to complete a historic clean sweep. The world No9 has known Littler since he was nine and believes the teenager’s laid-back approach to darts is unlike anything he has seen before. He said: “I think he is very laid-back and that approach sort of helps his game. You see him when he is in the practice rooms. “He is not on the board like we are told when we are kids. Get on the practice board, the more you play, the better you become. “Obviously, he did that from an early age, but even now he is laid-back. He will be on his phone in the practice room. “He will be chilling on the board then average 110. So he is a bit of an alien when it comes to what you are told to do and not to do. “I have known him since he has been nine years of age, coming through the academies. “Such a lovely lad. Great family, he is very ambitious as well. He wants to win every title he plays in. I wish him all the best with his career. But let us win some, Luke.” But Bunting reckons the Warrington thrower’s recent ProTour results show there are plenty of players capable of stopping him. The Nuke reached the quarter-finals of Players Championship 27 before narrowly losing 6-5 to Jermaine Wattimena, then made the last four of Event 28 before Brendan Dolan ended his run. Littler is still in danger of missing out on Minehead after sitting outside the top 100 in the Order of Merit and £16.75k adrift of the cut-off. Former Masters champ Bunting believes those performances highlight the strength of the competition Littler now faces. He added: “But there are so many good players now in the world who are capable of stopping him. You saw he went to the ProTours. “He didn’t win them did he. It shows how difficult it is going to be for him to qualify for the Players Championship Finals. “I think he has got to go to Holland now. I think he definitely wants it to be in them tournaments. “If he gets drawn against me I can bring that to an end and he will have to do it another year. “He has got the age on his side. He is very hungry for all these titles. He’s going to have to open a new bank to put all his money in.” Comment now
