Lenovo’s MacBook Neo Competitor Is Ultra-Colorful Down to the Swappable Keycaps

Dude, don’t worry, Lenovo’s trying to be chill this time. It’s got these new laptops that it’s calling the IdeaPad Vibe because, you know, it wants you to relax, my dude. They feature some radical colors and a price point that they swear won’t ruin the vibes. Lenovo’s IdeaPad Vibe laptop, announced at IFA 2026, is its first attempt to actually compete against Apple’s $700 MacBook Neo. The new IdeaPad comes with either a solid all-aluminum body or a two-tone plastic polymer on the bottom. Starting at $700, the IdeaPad Vibe comes in a total of seven color choices, including an admittedly slick “Radiant Coral” deep red hue and “Spicy Gold” that’s much more bright yellow in person. The rest of the blue, violet, and green tones are a little more subdued, but not nearly as low-key as Apple’s color offerings. Even better: Lenovo will let you order your laptop with custom keycaps, letting you add a contrasting color to the keyboard. © Kyle Barr / Gizmodo There are two different sizes of the IdeaPad Vibe as well: a 14- and 15-inch version. The laptop is far more customizable than other MacBook Neo competitors, like Dell’s XPS 13 and the Dell 14S just announced at IFA 2026. There are models of the laptop that come with OLED displays (though only with the “Moody Blue” and “Lowkey Grey” configurations). Some configurations can also support up to 120Hz if you opt for an LCD display. Neither the 14- nor 15-inch variant is as thin a laptop as the XPS 13 or MacBook Neo, though it contains many more ports, including two USB-C, two USB-A, HDMI, and even a micro SD card slot. Things get weirder once you go inside. There are two versions of the IdeaPad Vibe, one with a previous-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon X chip and another with AMD Ryzen AI 400 series processors. The latter will be much more powerful, though we’ve seen very few laptops with AMD’s latest laptop processors since the start of 2026. Lenovo told Gizmodo it plans to introduce options with Intel Wildcat Lake processors, but only at a “later date.” The all-aluminum IdeaPad Vibe certainly feels more premium. © Kyle Barr / Gizmodo Furthermore, you can configure each IdeaPad Vibe with up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Pushing the memory specs will inevitably spike the price of each device. You also have to consider whether you opt for a laptop with the 50Wh battery or the 65Wh version. If this laptop is supposed to be vibes-based, then you’ll have to know what kind of device you want from head to toe before you get one. The only thing that could really crush this laptop’s vibe is the pricing with higher-end configurations. We should expect to see the AMD configurations arrive in October, while the Snapdragon X versions should come live in November.
