Lego Unveils ‘The X-Files’ 1,478-Piece Set Featuring Mulder and Scully Minifigures (EXCLUSIVE)

The brick is out there. Lego has partnered with Gillian Anderson to reveal its new “The X-Files” set, which features 1,478 pieces and eight minifigures (including Mulder and Scully). “The X-Files” set is part of the company’s fan-favorite Lego Ideas line, in which users submit ideas for products — which are then considered for production as official Lego sets, depending on votes. “The X-Files” Lego set includes a detailed replica of FBI Agent Fox Mulder’s office, along with a forest clearing scene and a hovering UFO. Minifigures include Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, The Flukeman and a grey alien. Inside are details including an “I Want to Believe” poster, an “X-Files” dossier, “The Truth is Out There” tile, pencils in the ceiling of Mulder’s office and a nod to his sunflower seed habit. “Seeing myself in minifigure form is both surreal and oddly delightful – there’s something very charming about being ‘miniaturised,'” Anderson said in a statement. “The whole set is a brilliant celebration of the ‘X-Files’ which I hope fans enjoy revisiting in this way – I know I can’t wait to put tiny Scully on my shelf.” Popular on Variety Anderson participated in a promo film featuring a nod to Scully as she embarks on an investigation that leads her to the Lego set. Watch below: Australian fan designer and 3-D artist Brent Waller submitted the original idea for “The X-Files” set as art of Lego Ideas’ “’90s Nostalgia Challenge.” “I was obsessed with ‘The X-Files’ from the moment I first saw it in the ’90s. I originally built Mulder’s office back in 2014 while rewatching the series, and it grew from there as a personal project,” Waller said in a statement. “I wanted to combine nostalgia, detail and storytelling to capture the atmosphere of the show – from Mulder’s office to the forest and UFO encounter. I’m thrilled to see it become an official Lego set and hope it resonates with both long-time fans and new audiences.” Lego Insiders Early Access members will get first crack at purchasing the set (retail price $199.99) starting Aug. 1; the set will then be available to the general public starting Aug. 4. For those who purchase the set between Aug. 1 and Aug. 10, Lego will also include “‘The X-Files’: Scully’s Lab” as a bonus gift while supplies last. (Here’s the description for that: “Recreate authentic details of the classroom lab at the FBI National Academy and add the minifigure of Dana Scully in her lab coat and scrubs.”)
