With New York Comic-Con in full swing between now and October 11, LEGO has taken the opportunity to announce a new Marvel LEGO set. It’s a 1,261-piece set called The Marvel Skyline, and it's an ambitious microscale recreation of the most famous buildings in the Marvel universe, complete with a Galactus minifigure. Available to preorder now at Amazon and LEGO, it will be released January 1 for $99.99.LEGO Marvel: The Marvel SkylineLEGO Marvel: The Marvel SkylineLEGO Marvel: The Marvel Skyline includes tiny builds of numerous buildings from the Marvel universe — more than are obvious at a glance. It has the Daily Bugle building from Spider-Man, the Avengers Tower, the Baxter Building from Fantastic 4, and Kingpin’s Fisk Tower, and a lot more besides. In addition to the buildings, a number of creatures and vehicles are flying through the air. There’s the Avengers Quinjet, the Fantastic 4’s Excelsior ship, and the X-Men’s X-Jet. A microscale Human Torch is making a figure four in the air above the Baxter Building, and there’s even a Chitauri Leviathan swooping around. A microscale version of Spider-Man is also included. LEGO Marvel: Marvel's SkylineI know some LEGO fans aren’t fond of microscale sets, but I like them. The super-small sale requires an extra level of creativity in the design, in order to make recognizable things with such a small number of tiny pieces. The scale here is such that the Galactus minifigure looks positively huge among the buildings, which is fitting for the character. Basically, the set packs a lot of detail into a small amount of space — and a relatively small number of bricks, for what it depicts. If you’re more of a minifigure-scale fan, LEGO released the Avengers: Doomsday New Avengers Tower (see it at Amazon) just a few days ago as one of the October releases.
