The helmeted duo’s Alive 2007 tour inspired the new collaboration. The project started with a father and son building at home, and years of fan support helped get it approved.LEGO announced the partnership Oct. 22 and confirmed that Daft Punk Concert will move into development through LEGO Ideas. The fan-designed model reached 10,000 supporters before LEGO’s review board approved it, and creator RobotRock will work with LEGO designers on the finished set.The news is already drawing attention on social media. Daft Punk’s announcement on X has drawn more than 700,000 views as of Oct. 23, with the caption “Building a new era.” LEGO Ideas also confirmed on Facebook that RobotRock’s submission will become an official set.An accompanying short film, set to Daft Punk’s “Voyager” and “Human After All,” shows the duo as LEGO minifigures following a holographic red brick through a dark landscape. A concert environment assembles around them before the pair appear behind a brick-built console.Patrick Harboun, the designer behind RobotRock, developed the original concept with his son during the pandemic lockdown. According to EDM.com’s earlier reporting on the project, his son was 8 when he built an early prototype from bricks he already owned. Harboun then used his engineering background to expand the design digitally. The Luxembourg-based father and son won the grand prize in LEGO Ideas’ Music to Our Ears challenge in 2020. Their concert model later collected the 10,000 supporters needed for a LEGO Ideas review.“Watching our passion project become part of an official collaboration is an incredible experience,” Harboun said in LEGO’s announcement. The original design went beyond the shape of the stage. A motor-powered, rotating box of transparent bricks sat inside the pyramid, with hanging lights intended to recreate the concert’s light show. Images on LEGO’s Daft Punk page show the helmeted figures above a multicolored pyramid surrounded by triangular supports and circular blue lights.RELATED: LEGO’s new $800 Star Wars set recreates Darth Vader’s massive shipWhen will the LEGO Daft Punk set be released?LEGO has not announced a release date, price, final piece count or dimensions for Daft Punk Concert.
