For nearly a decade, it was stuck on the Game Boy Advance, and it took 10 years to get properly ported to the Wii U Virtual Console. From there, it moved to Nintendo Classics in 2023, where it remained and has been gaining new fans ever since. Minish Cap isn't just a Zelda game in name only. It's an original take on the formula, while providing a familiar framework with Link still playing the hero role. Now, thanks to YouTube footage, we knowa 3D remake is on the way. After years of work, modder and creator CryZENx is finally ready to unveil a from-scratch Minish Cap 3D remake, which is getting ready for an Early Access test period on PC. The project began development on July 15, 2026, and has already made a ton of headway, even though CryZENx says it's still an early work in progress. In the first major video showcasing the work done so far, CryZENx explains that Link's eyes can be manipulated with a control rig, as well as Ezlo, the talking hat, and the titular Minish Cap. Link can dash to his heart's content with no stamina penalty, and roll like in the 3D Zelda titles. The Z-target system is back and "close to Twilight Princess," with dodging intact, plus the ability to pick up objects for puzzles. Link's jumps are from Majora's Mask, making them a little more flippy and flashy, and there's even a "crash into the wall" animation. You can attack with your sword and defend with your shield, Ezlo can follow you by hopping around on the ground, and a dialogue system is even supported this early on. Ezlo can even attack enemies while it's on your head with a swift peck. Overall, it seems like a pretty great adaptation, because the move from 2D to 3D is going to bring a lot of changes. But these are true to form for other 3D Zelda games, while keeping the core of the original. It's still too early to tell, but mechanically, CryZENx has a handle on what makes a lot of the 3D games tick, so by taking a page from several of them, they've come up with a great action-adventure foundation. Here's a message from the creator, which explains the vibe they're going for: "Thank you all for the amazing support. Here is a video of what I have created so far for the project. In terms of mechanics, I built the project completely from scratch and tried to avoid mistakes as much as possible to keep the project clean. Let me know your thoughts!" If you haven't played The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap yet, change that as soon as possible. It's readily available on the Switch family of consoles, as long as you have an active Switch Online membership. As a reminder, the Game Boy Advance line is relegated to Expansion Pack members only.
