Sign in to your ScreenRant account The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask was a genuinely excellent follow-up to the all-time classic Ocarina of Time, so much so that there are plenty out there who think it's the better game of the two. The tone was darker, and it introduced some genuinely interesting mechanics to the series for the first time, making it one of the better old games to return to in 2026. As such, it was little surprise when Nintendo confirmed they were bringing the game back via a Nintendo 3DS remake, when those were very much in fashion. Unfortunately, it didn't really hit the heights that everyone was expecting, and fans have been debating exactly why that is over on social media. Over on Reddit, one user shared a post asking why the Majora's Mask 3DS Remake is widely disliked, saying that they have found very few issues with it overall. As you might expect, there were plenty of responses weighing in on the missteps Nintendo made, and a lot of them are relatively fair points of feedback. "The biggest issues are the bosses and transformation masks. All of the bosses have been given eyeball weak points and most are changed in ways that make them either oversimplified or tedious. Odolwa is the former and Gyorg and especially Twinmold are the latter," one comment read. "The 3DS version of Majora removed/broke a lot of the mechanics from the original game. While the new QOL stuff is nice, the parts that are missing make it difficult to recommend as the definitive version of MM. The main issues are the lack of the original save system, the Reverse Song of Time not being as effective, the nerfed Zora Swimming, the Twinmold fight being terrible, Ice Arrows only working at specific points now, and Deku Link's broken lily pad hopping," another added. While a third said, "They made a ton of changes that were not only almost universally terrible but all of the were completely needless. Like trying to improve pie by throwing canned spaghetti on it." Given that Ocarina of Time is now confirmed as on the way in this fresh format, it would make a lot of sense to move on to the sequel next, so don't rule out the chance of playing it as a new release once again.
