Her name is Ferial Govashiri, the chief of staff to the chief content officer at Netflix. Previous jobs include personal secretary and gatekeeper to former President Barack Obama for three years and working in the department of scheduling during Obama’s senatorial campaign years prior, having signed on as an unpaid volunteer. This biography is both admirable and normal. Admirable in terms of Govashiri starting out as an unpaid volunteer just to have the opportunity to work with Obama and the fact that she worked her way up the chain to serve as the president’s personal secretary. As a reward for years of hard work and loyalty, Govashiri got what is likely a dream job at Netflix, first working for CCO Ted Sarandos, who raised and bundled more than $500,000 for Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. And, for your information, the Obamas signed a lucrative eight-figure deal with Netflix not long after leaving the White House, so this isn’t exactly a difficult dot to connect. TRUMP, AN ALLEGED MISTRESS, AND OSSOFF’S CHEAP SHOT: THE LEFT’S FEMINISM HAS AN ASTERISKUltimately, Govashiri showed loyalty to Obama. Loyalty was rewarded by Obama as it pertained to Govashiri in her post-Oval Office life, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. It’s the way the world works.Which brings us to this week’s biggest and most pathetic story on cable news: Natalie Harp, executive assistant to President Donald Trump. The story? Her loyalty to the current commander in chief. No, really.Harp has been by Trump’s side for a few years. But this week, this normal boss-employee relationship was artificially turned into a gutter sequel of former President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. The only problem with the Trump and Harp tale is that, unlike Clinton and Lewinsky, there is zero evidence of any relationship existing outside of Harp being loyal to the president and her commitment to her seemingly nonstop job of keeping up with Trump’s schedule, which involves little sleep and no days off.Of course, the reason Harp is in the news is Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA), who has seen his odds rise in the betting markets recently in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. Ossoff hasn’t announced he’s running, but as a liberal lawmaker elected in a state Trump won twice, he’s seen as a real contender.“He doesn’t want to do the job,” Ossoff read off a teleprompter recently at a campaign rally in Atlanta. “He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the emir of Qatar.”“Travel with Natalie”: That’s what got the attention of legacy media, which immediately jumped into warp speed in making this nonstory the story during a relatively slow August news cycle.Ossoff was immediately booked to join Jen Psaki on MS Now once the clip went viral. Over at CNN, it was like the missing Malaysian plane story all over again, with the Ossoff comment that clearly implied an affair between Trump and Harp seemingly presented as breaking news. But the usual activists who enjoy posing as serious news anchors didn’t run to Harp’s defense for this obvious smear by the sitting senator, instead mocking the White House for its defense of Harp.Abby Phillip, CNN anchor: “Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff is facing fresh backlash for a comment that he made that really got under MAGA’s skin this week.”“Got under MAGA’s skin.” Nope. No bias there at all. Kristen Holmes, CNN senior White House correspondent: “Meet Natalie Harp, the aide so close to Trump she once rode in an SUV trunk to accompany him.”“Denied a seat but determined not to be left behind, Harp jumped into an SUV trunk, according to the two sources and confirmed by a photo obtained by CNN.”Memo to Holmes: SUVs don’t have trunks. And of course, these “sources” are anonymous. CNN Erin Burnett OutFront headline: “Trump, White House Unload On Senator Ossoff With Name-Calling, Crude Attacks.”Yes, it’s Ossoff who’s the victim here. Oh, and that crude attack? That was Trump comparing Ossoff to that murderous despot otherwise known as Pee-Wee Herman when asked about the Harp “controversy” in the Oval Office. The Daily Beast: “Republican Gets Laughed at Over Take on Trump’s Blonde Companion”The “blond companion” is the personal secretary to the president. When did the Daily Beast become so utterly misogynistic? The Atlantic: “Ossoff’s ‘Natalie’ Moment; The Georgia senator’s latest viral moment reveals much about Trump—and plenty about Ossoff himself.”The piece goes on to praise Ossoff for igniting the party base and showing some “more fight.”So much for the party of women.People magazine: “White House Correspondent Says Trump’s Doting Assistant Natalie Harp Is Like His ‘Binky’ amid Scrutiny Over Their Relationship.”That White House correspondent who called Harp a “binky” is Maggie Haberman of the New York Times, who couldn’t find the time to write any books about former President Joe Biden and his failed presidency for four years but just released yet another anti-Trump screed under the guise of investigative reporting called Regime Change. As for Ossoff, he might as well arrange for permanent lodging at MS Now studios since the nonstory he created exploded on the Left.“It’s been amazing to watch this White House melt down over this all week,” he told a smirking Lawrence O’Donnell. “And about Natalie Harp, these White House staffers are adults, public officials paid by the taxpayer with immense power in positions of public trust.”“No one cares about their feelings,” he added. So how did Harp become so loyal to Trump? Maybe it’s because she was once diagnosed with Stage 2 rare bone cancer and how she survived. In 2018, courtesy of Trump’s newly signed “right to try” law, Harp was allowed access to experimental treatments that otherwise could not be tapped. At the time in 2015 when she was only in her mid-20s, she endured two failed chemotherapies and was denied clinical trials for this rare form of bone cancer.“When I failed the chemotherapies that were on the market, no one wanted me in their clinical trials,” she said at the Republican National Convention in 2020. “They didn’t give me the right to try experimental treatments, Mr. President. You did, and without you, I’d have died waiting for them to be approved.”Harp was hired by the Trump campaign two years later.Earlier this week, a few letters from Harp to Trump made it into the public domain. They were somehow presented as evidence of a relationship beyond work but seem perfectly benign considering her perpetual job and the expectations of working for a tireless president.“I also am sorry if I was an embarrassment walking the course in Scotland,” she wrote in one letter, breathlessly reported by the New York Times after a trip to Trump’s golf course there.“I want things to always be right between us,” she added. “I also know I’ve been distracted all week (forgetting to eat throughout the days, and even forgetting to sleep, and only catching a couple hours at a time).”The letter concludes: “With all my heart, Natalie.”Harp does her job and does it well in the eyes of her boss. But a guy who apparently wants to be president reads a script provided to him and carries out a hatchet job on an innocent woman to elevate himself.Ossoff showed “the art of the viral clip,” CNN’s Brian Stelter swooned.Just imagine if a sitting senator such as Ted Cruz (R-TX) or John Thune (R-SD) had made such an implication about Govashiri when she worked for Obama?Would CNN, MS Now, or the New York Times be praising them for showing fight while possessing a talent for going viral? Rhetorical question.THE MEDIA ACT LIKE CHEERLEADERS WITH PRESS CREDENTIALS — THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO BE INSTANT REPLAYMany in the media should be ashamed of themselves this week. Again. But that would take having actual shame in the first place.
