Leaked Memo Reveals Frontier Airlines Seat Power And Refreshed Interiors—And March 5 First Class Launch

Frontier Airlines is telling flight attendants that in-seat power and refreshed interiors are coming, and long-delayed first class will launch March 5, 2027. An internal memo shared with me details the rollout. The employee who provided it says Frontier has finally installed the first class seats on an aircraft after repeated delays. The retrofit program starts later this month. I’ve covered Frontier’s first class plans and their coming Starlink wifi. The seat power is new. And we now have a timeframe for getting first class onto planes. Frontier Is Adding Seat Power And Refreshing Interiors The memo adds at the bottom, “And There Is More Ahead”: Expanded premium seating. Refreshed interiors. In-seat power and Starlink Wi-Fi rolling out during 2027. I didn’t have Frontier adding power on my bingo card. But they do seem to be addressing at least the non-operational reasons to avoid them. It’s not clear whether this means USB ports, standard outlets, or both and whether power will be available at all seats. Details aren’t available on “refreshed interiors” and whether that means new seats, overhead bins, lighting, etc. Frontier has previously introduced Airbus Airspace interiors on new deliveries, highlighting cabin and lavatory improvements. That could mean bringing a similar aesthetic to existing aircraft. “On their July earnings call, the airline said they were considering additional premium seating, after paid occupancy of UpFront Plus rose above 80%. We don’t know a seat count beyond the eight first class seats in the first two rows. The New Seats Arrive Before The March 5 Launch Here’s the schedule Frontier is giving flight attendants: Late October 2026: Aircraft retrofits begin. During the retrofit: The new first class seats will be sold as UpFront Plus. Some passengers will get the bigger seats before the formal launch, with no other changes to inflight procedures during this period. March 2027: The airline expects the entire fleet’s first class conversion to be finished. The report that the first installation has happened is progress. Frontier originally announced this in December 2024 for late 2025. The UpFront Plus transition has also begun appearing on Frontier’s seating page saying that customers buying the product may receive the new 2-by-2 seats as aircraft become available. Until the conversion is finished, an UpFront Plus booking can mean either an ordinary coach seat with an empty middle or a bigger first class seat, depending on the plane. Eight Bigger Seats, With Food And Drinks Still Extra The memo confirms two rows in a 2-by-2 configuration. That’s eight first class seats, with no middle seats. Frontier selected seat manufacturer Geven and its Comoda platform for the product. The photo in the employee memo shows gray seats with green trim, headrests and a wide shared center armrest. But don’t assume the seats recline just because they’re called recliners. Frontier’s first class description says they’re “pre-reclined.” It also says complimentary food and beverages aren’t included. So you’re paying for the seat and space. That’s not really ‘first class’ it’s ‘the Big Front Seat’. Starlink Makes Frontier Better Than Delta That’s the inflight product only – Frontier still isn’t nearly as reliable – but they announced the wifi on July 14, with the first equipped aircraft planned for early 2027. On the July earnings call, Frontier said they hoped to finish before summer 2027. Delta still uses ViaSat, and plans to adopt Amazon’s new service that isn’t even in a true beta yet starting in 2028 (unless that slips) and then only on about half its aircraft. Frontier goes from unflyable for those who need to be productive inflight to potentially the better choice – matching the internet that’ll be offered by United, Southwest, Alaska and American. I’ve written that lack of internet has kept me from flying Frontier. A cheap fare can be expensive if it costs you hours of productivity. A bigger seat, good wifi and power would make them much more appealing. However, it’s notable that Frontier is making complimentary UpFront Plus and first class upgrades contingent on buying a bundle for bookings made starting January 1, 2027. Their published upgrade windows are 24 hours before departure for Diamond, 18 for Platinum, eight for Gold and four for Silver. They’re finally adding the seat elites have been waiting for, while requiring an additional purchase to be eligible for it. Topics on this page
