Layne Riggs keeps Front Row Silly Season buzzing as Noah Gragson questions linger

Layne Riggs is tearing up the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Front Row Motorsports. It’s been a newsy day for FRM with the announcement of the extension of Cup Series driver Todd Gilliland earlier in the day. Riggs certainly added more intrigue in the afternoon. Riggs was on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Friday and was asked about the 2027 season. The Truck Series points leader has his eyes on the Cup Series. “Well, I’d like to know my plans too,” said Riggs with a laugh. “I’m not sure either, actually. We don’t have any plans yet. Just figuring out how the early Silly Season works out first, to see if there’s an opportunity for me. “But yeah, I’d love to make my first start at some point. I mean, this year would be great, but It’s not looking great for the timeline and having to get your first start before The Chase starts in Cup. “Like I said, whenever that opportunity arises, I’d love to do it. But at the same time, I wanna make sure that I start with the splash, the same kinda way I did with the Truck Series. I didn’t start with mediocre equipment. “I made sure that my first race was in a truck that could win the race, and I waited for that opportunity, and turned down some opportunities to make sure that that could happen. “Hopefully I can put myself in that same spot here in the near future. I’m just as anxious to find out as everybody else.” 2027 Cup Series possibility The 24-year-old North Carolina native has been rumored to be in line to replace Noah Gragson at Front Row. With Gilliland and Zane Smith both extended for FRM, there’s just Gragson left to either extend or move on from. When asked if driving in the Cup Series in 2027 is a possibility, Riggs said it is. He said no news yet, however. “It is,” confirmed Riggs. “I’m working hard every day to try to make sure that happens, but no new news yet.” Riggs in, Gragson out? Gragson raised eyebrows earlier this week as he and Chase Briscoe were guest co-hosting the Dale Jr. Download. He and Briscoe were joking about the dust-up with Kevin Magnussen post-race at Naval Base Coronado. Gragson, who is well-liked in the garage, is currently in 30th in the standings. There have been links to the opening at RCR, should Austin Hill not get the No. 33 ride permanently, but the comment from Gragson certainly perked some ears. “I still can’t believe you didn’t throw a punch, said Briscoe. “We went to dinner the night before. “And you were talking about fighting people, and you’re like, I’ll take on anybody.” “I was, but I’m trying to get a job next year,” said Gragson. “There’s a lot more consequences than just the monetary fine if I were to do that.“ This one bears watching.
