LAX Employee Shuttle Meltdown After Worker Brings His Son — Then A Pilot Jumps But Gets Told To Shut Up

An airline employee tried to use the LAX employee parking shuttle while traveling with his son on around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. The driver wouldn’t proceed because family memmbers aren’t allowed on the shuttle. Other employees get angry over the delay and demand he get off with his son – while a late-arriving pilot keeps the argument going, intervening to contend the man shouldn’t have been booted. Several employees say everyone received an email prohibiting family members from riding, and urge the man to take a Lyft and not risk his job or employee parking privileges. “We all have to follow the rules. We cannot bring family members. There was an email sent out. … Everybody got the same email … You know what? Don’t lose your job. Just take a Lyft. This is not even worth it. Don’t lose your job, right? It’s not even worth it. You’re losing your job.” … “No, it doesn’t matter, though.” “Yes, it does…All of us are telling you the same thing…None of us can bring our children. None of us. …If we’re all telling you the same thing, we’re trying to save your job, dude.” “Come on. Don’t do that in front of your son. ..Don’t lose your job and your parking over something [like this]…” A pilot speaks up for the man, even as he’s on the way off the bus with his son. He’s interjecting, while woman who objected to the child on the bus says “You don’t even know what’s going on” and another woman ““Exactly.” The pilot wants to take names of the women he finds rude, and one tells him “Sit down and shut up.” The incident took place on the LAX airport authority’s paid remote employee parking shuttle. This covers the the West, East and South employee lots operated by ABM Parking. Lot West, at issue here, is at 6101 Westchester Parkway. The West Lot shuttles serve Lot South stops and Terminals 4–7. One commenter on the video suggests the father is an Alaska Airlines customer service agent. The biggest issue being speculated here is the suggestion that the shuttle travels through a SIDA-restricted area but I don’t think that’s right. The route is from an off-airport parking lot and the landside terminal area. I don’t see why it would go through a restricted area to do this, and the airport authority’s rules allow employees without a SIDA badge to sign up for parking in the lot. As a result, claims that family have been restricted from traveling on the bus because a child created a security breach seem unlikely to me. There’s also claims that an injury on the bus to family of an employee is what caused the prohibition, while there seems to be disagreement over whether all employee family members have actually been banned or whether it was specific to employees of United. I don’t see why the man would be fired from his job for this in any case. The airport authority would issue a warning, citation, and eventually revoking parking access for a rule violation. An airline could discipline him for breaking airport authority rules, but that’s a step further removed. Topics on this page
