Lana Del Rey Helps Stranger ‘Trying to Stay Out of an Abusive Relationship’ While Listening to Tate McRae

The McRae track just so happened to tie into the location of Del Rey's generous moment. Lana Del Rey at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards held at Crypto.com Arena on Feb. 4, 2024, in Los Angeles. Gilbert Flores/Billboard Trending on Billboard Lana Del Rey helped out a stranger in Los Angeles in a recent moment soundtracked by Tate McRae. The “Summertime Sadness” singer posted a video Sunday (Oct. 25) on her Instagram Story showing herself listening to music in the car while driving at night. As she vibes to McRae’s 2021 song “Rubberband,” Del Rey notices someone outside the window. “When you’re listening to Tate’s song about Highland when you’re sitting at a light on Highland and a woman sticks a sign on your window that says trying to stay out of an abusive relationship,” she explained in text typed over the clip. The video then shows Del Rey reaching into her bag for a $100 to pass to the woman. “You got me when I was filming,” she says through the open window. “Try to stay away. Be careful.” “Rubberband” appears on McRae’s Too Young to Be Sad EP. “Midnight driving, running through Highland/ Does it make me the criminal?/ That I let you go/ That I broke us and left,” she sings on the track. Del Rey’s interaction with the stranger in need comes as the alt-pop singer-songwriter is earning praise for “Lies,” her new collaboration with Zach Bryan that dropped Oct. 15 on his eight-track Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs project. Del Rey also recently released “First Light,” the theme song for the James Bond video game of the same name. She hasn’t been doing many live performances as she continues perfecting her highly anticipated country album Stove, but Del Rey did recently perform at the F1 Grand Prix in Singapore. “I can’t even tell you how happy we were to be there, thank you so much for showing up and getting us so excited,” she wrote Friday (Oct. 23) on Instagram after the show. “And to my amazing crew, band, singers dancers, etc. we really did it. I loved our rehearsals loved the show and everything that we did afterwards. Hope everybody is doing well, sending love.” Get weekly rundowns straight to your inbox Sign Up
