But Stella mistook the bird for a parrot and filmed it yesterday afternoon as the red-beaked creature perched on a branch in Lloyd Park, north London. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! She grew concerned that someone was missing their pet, so posted a video of the parakeet on her Instagram and X accounts which have a combined following of 231,000. Her post read: “Walthamstow has anyone lost a parrot? There’s one in Lloyd park right now! “Please share to help reunite it with its owner!” Speaking to the camera, Stella said: “Walthamstow – up there is a parrot. “If you have lost a parrot, not a parakeet, there is a parrot on the loose in Lloyd Park right now. “I’ll try and post some pictures up of it” Most read in The Sun In the background of the footage ‘I’m Like A Bird’ by Nelly Furtado played. Stella added: “It’s too big to be a parakeet.” But commenters were quick to correct Stella, identifying the bird as a ring-necked parakeet which have become abundant in London in recent years. Despite being native to warmer climates in Africa and Asia, parakeet populations are thriving in the big smoke. Scientists believe they originated from escaped or released pets by overwhelmed exotic pet breeders. Although, for many years people believed a popular London myth that the birds can be traced back to Jimi Hendrix’s pet parakeets called Adam and Eve. One tickled commenter said: “Good on you, Stella! “Oh, and if you’re anywhere near Trafalgar Square today, could you keep half an eye out for my mate’s missing pigeon? “It’s called Keith & only has one foot. Ta!” Another said: “That’s a parakeet babe! They live here!!” 2 comments2
