La Union intensifies water quality monitoring at 20 ecotourism sites

(Photo courtesy of the La Union PIO) CALASIAO, Pangasinan — The La Union provincial government is conducting regular water quality monitoring in rivers, waterfalls, and other inland waters at 20 ecotourism sites to help ensure public safety and protect the province’s natural resources. The initiative, led by the Provincial Government–Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), is part of the province’s environmental management program aimed at detecting potential environmental issues early and enabling authorities to take prompt corrective action. The monitoring covers eight waterfalls across the province: Tuddingan Falls in Naguilian, Budahaw Falls in Burgos, Simminublan Falls and Anito Falls in Santol, Kinmadilyan Falls in Sudipen, Occalong Falls in Luna, Tangadan Falls in San Gabriel, and Bulalakaw Falls in Bagulin. Article continues after this advertisement Water quality is also being monitored in several rivers, including Tapuakan River in Pugo, Maragayap River in Barangay Bungol, Balaoan, Baroro River in Bacnotan, Ifugao River in Tubao, Aringay River in Aringay, and rivers in the towns of Rosario, Santo Tomas, and San Juan. According to PG-ENRO, data gathered from the monitoring stations allow the provincial government to assess the condition of its water resources and support programs on pollution prevention, sustainable water resource management, and the conservation of aquatic ecosystems.
