Kyiv, Odesa Hit in Massive Russian Attack as 10 People Are Wounded

Kyiv and Odesa came under a massive Russian missile and drone attack overnight on Wednesday, Sept. 2, leaving at least 10 people wounded and damaging civilian infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said. Kyiv Post correspondents heard explosions in the city shortly after 7 a.m. At around 8 a.m., local Telegram channels reported thick smoke over the capital following the explosions and a large fire on the outskirts of the city. “Kyiv residents, close your windows: the capital is being filled with thick smoke,” one local channel reported. The Holosiivskyi district had also been targeted during the previous evening’s Russian attack, when debris caused a fire in an open area. A private house in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district also caught fire. Two wounded in Kyiv region Two people were wounded in the Kyiv region during the morning attack, according to Regional Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko. In the Bucha district, a man suffered a shrapnel wound to his thigh. In the Brovary district, a woman sustained shrapnel wounds to her arm and shoulder. Both are receiving medical treatment. Damage was reported in the Bucha, Brovary and Boryspil districts. Warehouses caught fire in the Bucha district, where a private house was also damaged. Another private house was damaged in the Brovary district, while a warehouse building was damaged in Boryspil. Odesa hit overnight Odesa also came under a massive Russian attack overnight, according to the head of the Odesa City Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak. “It’s been a difficult night for Odesa. The enemy has again launched a massive attack on the city,” Lysak wrote on Telegram at around 7 a.m. He said eight people were wounded, including one child. Two of the injured were hospitalized. A 24-story residential building was damaged, with apartments on several floors destroyed. Windows were blown out in nearby buildings, and cars were damaged. Office buildings and two educational institutions were also damaged in the attack. Experts are continuing to assess the damage across several areas of the city. Emergency and utility crews are working at the scene, while energy workers are restoring power supplies. Emergency assistance centers have also been set up for residents affected by the attack. Air Force: Russia launched 174 drones and missiles According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a massive overnight attack beginning at 6 p.m. on Sept. 1, using missiles and 174 attack drones. The attack included two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and two Kh-59/69 guided aircraft missiles. Russia also launched 174 drones, including Shahed-type attack UAVs – about half of which were jet-powered variants – as well as S8000 Banderol, Gerbera and Parody decoy drones. The main targets were the Kyiv and Odesa regions. As of 8:30 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had destroyed or suppressed 141 aerial targets, including three S8000 Banderol drones and 138 Shahed, Gerbera and other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Debris from missiles and downed drones fell at 16 locations, while additional debris from intercepted targets was recorded at four other locations.
