Jewellery brand GIVA has withdrawn its Raksha Bandhan advertisement featuring actor Kriti Sanon after the campaign drew criticism on social media over her outfit. The move came a day after Kriti responded to those questioning her choice of attire, while actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut also criticised the campaign. In a statement shared on its official Instagram page on Wednesday, GIVA said it had the “highest regard and deep respect” for Indian culture, traditions and festivals. The brand also said the campaign was intended to extend the spirit of the festival to pets.Kangana had taken a dig at Kriti over the advertisement, questioning her decision to celebrate Raksha Bandhan in what she described as a “bikini”. The controversy continued to draw attention on social media before GIVA announced that it had removed the commercial from all media “out of respect”.“We have the highest regard and deep respect for Indian culture, traditions and festivals. As a brand, we have always believed in celebrating these joyous moments with the entire family and this time we wanted to extend the love and celebration to our pets,” the statement read. GIVA added that it did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments through the advertisement.“If our recent advertisement has inadvertently hurt the sentiments of some segments of society, that was not our intent at all. Out of respect, we have withdrawn the said advertisement from all media. Wish you all the love & positivity this festive season!” the brand said. Her outfit drew criticism from a section of social media users, who questioned its suitability for a campaign centred on the festival. The debate intensified after Kangana also weighed in, specifically objecting to Kriti’s outfit while tying a rakhi.Kriti subsequently responded to the criticism, defending her choice of attire. Defending the campaign, the 36-year-old actor said festivals should be centred on emotions and traditions rather than judgments about a woman’s choice of clothing. “Culture & Traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline (sic),” she wrote in a note, ending it with a folded hands emoji.Kriti also explained why the advertisement’s portrayal of Raksha Bandhan resonated with her. She defended the inclusion of her pet in the celebrations as well, pointing out that dogs are an integral part of many families.Read her post here: On the work front, Kriti was last seen in the romantic comedy-drama Cocktail 2, co-starring Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna.- EndsPublished On: Aug 26, 2026 11:13 IST
