Kremlin Says No News on Patel's October Trip to Russia

You know, such visits are not usually made public, so I cannot tell you anything about this,” Peskov said, according to Russian state media TASS.The comment came following Politico’s Monday report that Patel is scheduled for a two-day trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg on Oct. 14-15.The outlet called the rumored trip “unusual and sensitive” as it comes amid publicly clashing stances between Washington and Moscow over Russia’s war in Ukraine and the planned Sanction Russia Act championed by late US Senator Lindsey Graham.According to Politico, citing “a US official and a person familiar with the situation,” said Patel’s rumored trip is likely hosted by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).The FSB has amassed significant power in Russia in recent years and is widely viewed as a key instrument of Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s control over the country.The last confirmed trip to Russia by an FBI director was made by Robert Mueller in 2013, according to the outlet.Patel has previously questioned aid to Ukraine, and in December 2024 called on the US Congress to investigate how the aid is being used.
