KPop Demon Hunters is already back in a major way. Originally developed and co-directed by Maggie Kang, the Netflix sensation centers on the adventures of fictional K-pop band HUNTR/X as they walk between their lives as global stars and warriors against the evil forces of the demon ruler, Gwi-Ma. In the time since KPop Demon Hunters' streaming debut, Netflix has steadily grown its roster of content for the franchise in order to keep anticipation high as development continues on the sequel, currently eyeing a 2029 release window. Now, with just over a year gone since it became a cultural phenomenon, Netflix has now announced KPop Demon Hunters is getting a major new launch on the streamer with its own hub page. In addition to hosting the previously released film and sing-along version, the hub is coming with a new PLAYlist Stories series, comprised of six stop-motion episodes telling more stories for HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys from behind-the-scenes. Moreover, Netflix has also released a three-episode series entitled KPop Toy Creations, in which a "young filmmaking visionary" creates mini episodes inspired by the film, and a four-episode Play Games With Us series, also made in stop-motion, that includes competitions and challenges inspired by the film. The arrival of Netflix's new KPop Demon Hunters hub page and series comes on the heels of the streamer kicking off a weekly release of choreography videos showcasing both the iconic and unseen dance moves for the movie's bestselling soundtrack. The initial announcement also came with an animated version of HUNTR/X rehearsing their "How It's Done," which takes place sometime after the original film's ending, as Rumi can be seen donning her bright-colored patterns. Moreover, it's continuing Netflix's trend of various new KPop Demon Hunters releases to tide over audiences keenly waiting for the sequel. The streamer recently teamed with the Criterion Collection for an expansive 4K Ultra-HD collector's edition, while an animated short film remains awaiting a release, an interactive live experience is launching in January, a concert tour kicking off sometime next year, and various comics hitting shelves. While the six-episode series may essentially serve as filler for the original KPop Demon Hunters story, exploring certain unseen moments between characters, it could still give Netflix a new means of expanding the franchise if it proves successful. Some fans of the film have expressed their interest in a spinoff focused on Derpy, Jinu's wide-eyed pet tiger, that could expand on the lore of the demon world. Given the success James Gunn and DC have had with the similarly-structured Krypto Saves the Day! on HBO Max, which is also a collection of short episodes, the new KPop Demon Hunters series could be the start of an expansion in that direction for Netflix. Even if not, though, it does prove a unique nod to fans of the original film that could be inspired to create their own similar short episodes with their HUNTR/X and Saja Boy figures.
