KPop Demon Hunters & Labyrinth Secret Lair's Just Got Teased

In one of the more exciting Secret Lair developments from Magic: The Gathering, it appears as though a new, spooky superdrop is coming very soon, and a promo image on Instagram suggests that it includes KPop Demon Hunters, Jim Henson's iconic Labyrinth, and . . . Marvel. While more Marvel is certainly an eye-roller, especially following rumors of a Spider-Man Commander deck to release later this year and given the fact that the last superdrop still hasn't sold out, we have to admit we're incredibly excited to see what's coming from the KPop Demon Hunters and Labyrinth bundles. The Corn Maze Superdrop Coming October 12 In a post on Instagram on September 29, the Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair account teased a new superdrop called The Corn Maze. While there are a few clues dotted around the images, the biggest spoiler is the copyright and trademark stamps at the bottom, which clearly state "Marvel," "KPop Demon Hunters," and "The Jim Henson Company/Labyrinth Enterprises." Given the absolute hit that KPop Demon Hunters turned out to be for Netflix, it's no surprise to see it end up in a collab with Wizards of the Coast, but we have to admit we're impressed with the turnaround time here, as many other Secret Lair collabs can take years to fully develop. Our big hope for both drops is that they pull from the huge library of Magic: The Gathering cards to curate some interesting bundles, and don't just fall back on cards like Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, and Command Tower as easy wins. More Marvel... Really? As exciting as the prospect of some new and original crossovers is for Magic: The Gathering, the thought of yet more Marvel cards is becoming very laborious. We've had a whole Marvel Super Heroes set and Secret Lair superdrop so far this year, and there are bundles from the superdrop still available on the Secret Lair website, suggesting that they haven't been nearly as popular as Wizards hoped. With the rumors of another Marvel Commander precon floating around, as well as the reveal of another Marvel Universes Beyond set supposedly taking place at New York Comic Con, Wizards will, at some point, need to hit the brakes on this collaboration before players completely turn their backs on it. I understand that Mark Rosewater said a minuscule portion of players are truly opposed to Universes Beyond, but with it being shoved down our throats so consistently, even the stoutest of UB supporters will start to feel the fatigue.
