Klint Kubiak: We're counting on Ashton Jeanty for Week 1

Published August 28, 2026 01:21 PM The Raiders wrapped up their preseason games on Thursday night and running back Ashton Jeanty’s status will be one of the team’s focal points as they turn their attention toward Week 1. Jeanty sprained his ankle last weekend and the team has not shared much detail about the severity of the injury or the outlook for when he will be back on the field. Head coach Klint Kubiak stayed the course on that during a Friday videoconference with reporters, but he did make it clear that the team’s plans include having the 2025 first-round pick in the backfield. “Still on the mend, still working to get him back,” Kubiak said. “We’ve got another week to assess how he’s gonna look going into this first game, but we’re counting on him.”Fourth-round pick Mike Washington had a good camp and Kubiak said he will have a role once the regular season is underway, but the Raiders would prefer it to be a complementary rather than starring one.
