The two-month-old was spotted being flogged for free outside Camden Town Station in north London. Voice actor Chloe Eves intervened to stop the cat from falling into the wrong hands or being abandoned. After being assessed by a vet, the ginger and white kitten was taken into the care of the Blue Cross charity. Eves, 29, from Birmingham, said she heard someone call out ‘free kitten’ on her way back to her hotel from work. She said: ‘My mind was racing with the fear of it being abandoned or taken in by a bad owner, so I said I’d take him to a vet and pay any fee if it ensured he went to a good home.’ The kitten was named Camden, before being taken to the Blue Cross hospital in Victoria. Now named after the town where he was discovered, the two-month-old kitten is looking for a new home (Picture: Blue Cross/SWNS) ‘I know the team is a wonderful team who will help look after him and find him a good, loving home’, Eves added. ‘He was so sweet, friendly and adorable. I’m sure whatever forever home he ends up with, will be happy with his addition to their family.’ Camden was not microchipped and has undergone regular flea and worming treatment to prepare him for a new home. Blue Cross say it has seen a stark increase in abandoned kittens, with the number handed to the charity this year 15 per cent up on last year, with the cost-of-living crisis an aggravating factor. It warned that pet owners were not even neutering their pets in order to save on vet fees. Some owners are also deliberately breeding cats to sell off the kittens but with fewer buyers they often end up being abandoned. Camden was spotted by northern Irish voice actress Chloee Eves (Picture: Blue Cross/SWNS) Amanda Rumball, London welfare officer at Blue Cross, said: ‘We’re so grateful to Chloe for bringing little Camden to us, as who knows what might have happened to him. ‘Sadly there are many more out there who may not be so fortunate. ‘We are urging anyone who is struggling to care for any animal, or who has an unwanted litter, to seek help as soon as possible from a charity like Blue Cross.’ Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk.
