Kites grounded in Delhi around Independence Day venues as security tightened

The order is aimed at tightening security, and violations can invite action under the law.Delhi imposes kite flying ban ahead of Independence Day celebrations (Photo: AI-generated representational image)The Central District Police in Delhi has prohibited kite flying and the use of other aerial objects at or around venues where Independence Day programmes and public gatherings will be held.The order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, to strengthen security arrangements, maintain law and order and ensure public safety during the Independence Day celebrations.The restriction has been imposed in view of the heightened security requirements during the celebrations and potential risks posed by kite flying to the safety of the public, dignitaries and participants attending the programmes.The order also prohibits any activity that could cause obstruction, danger, annoyance, inconvenience or disturbance to public peace and tranquillity during the celebrations. All individuals, establishments, institutions and event organisers have been directed to strictly follow security instructions issued by the police and other competent authorities.The order came into force with immediate effect and will remain applicable until August 16, 2026, both days inclusive, unless withdrawn earlier. Anyone violating the order will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
