This is an example of a mis-struck coin, meaning it was incorrectly struck during the minting process, giving it a wonky appearance. In perfectly minted coins, the King’s head should appear in the silver-coloured inner disk of the coin. Bidding for the item began £5 before reaching £122 and the listing read: “2025 King Charles £1 Coin minting errors. Oval centre, head in outer ring.” Coins featuring the King rather than the Queen began circulating in 2024, 2 years following the monarch’s death. Since then, many people have been realising the defects of their own coins and sold them off for more than their usual worth.
