King Charles may welcome Harry & Meghan back but I know why furious William may never forgive them

SO the prodigal son is returning home. Will his father the King prepare the fattened calf for Prince Harry and his family? I imagine Harry and Meghan’s decision to return to the UK with their children, Archie and Lilibet, will have His Majesty’s blessing because nothing like this can happen without his agreement. There’s no point continuing to fight any more. Life is precious.” It was an appeal from the heart to the King, who at that stage was not speaking to his son. I believe Harry genuinely meant it. And when the prince and his family met Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove last month, I bet seven-year-old Archie and Lily, five, melted their grandad’s heart. The good news for His Majesty, who is still being treated for cancer after two years, is that he will get to see his grandchildren, who I am sure will be invited to the annual family gatherings at Sandringham and Balmoral. It seems Harry and Meghan are moving to their new home in the UK in time for their children, who have dual nationality, to start the new school term and get a British education. We don’t yet know where the Sussex family will be living in their “private accommodation”. But I imagine Archie, who speaks with an American accent, will, like his father, attend a local prep school before perhaps being considered for Eton, where his cousin George is set to go. Lily may eventually end up at Catherine’s old school, Marlborough College, in Wiltshire. But before we get carried away with happy families, let’s not forget the things Harry said about his father’s lovely wife, Queen Camilla, were vicious. He even alleged she sacrificed him on her “personal PR altar” and leaked private family conversations. Harry obviously regrets it now, but he took the money from the book — millions of pounds. Camilla, who dotes on her own grandchildren, will, I’m sure, go along with the King’s decision to give Harry a second chance. As she revealed yesterday, the good news is Charles is living with his cancer and the treatment is not as severe now. He is obviously improving and please God he will be King for a long while yet. But while His Majesty may welcome back Harry and Meghan, I am not convinced brother Prince William will be so forgiving. It would take a great act of forgiveness and I’m not sure Wills is ready to do that. I still cannot forget how much Meghan seemed to enjoy that terrible Oprah Winfrey interview, where they accused the royals of racism. It was outrageous because most mixed-race families have that conversation. It’s natural, but it was made into such a big deal and was so embarrassing for the Royal Family. All his life, the King has fought against the hatred that people spew just because of the difference in their colour. Meghan’s mock curtsy on the couple’s big-money Netflix documentary series was so disrespectful to our late Queen. I think Harry wants to come back to the UK because here he was somebody, while in LA he is just another celeb in a town full of celebrities. Living in his mansion in Montecito, he doesn’t seem to do much that is worthwhile — turning up at some fake awards ceremony or a big sporting event like the Lakers basketball. And he is facing millions of pounds in legal bills from losing his recent case at the High Court. You can only sell so many pots of jam. So, what will he do for a job? Personally, I hope he does eventually get to do some sort of royal duties, because I really enjoyed working with him. He has stuck with his UK charities, like WellChild, Scotty’s Little Soldiers and the Invictus Games, which are in Birmingham next year and will most likely be a success. Some of the British public may be able to forgive Harry, but the more difficult problem is Meghan. Ask any woman over 30 in this country what they think of the Duchess of Sussex and they don’t have a lot of time for her. They think she is the reason for Harry’s downfall. Everybody deserves a second chance, but their new life in Britain could be much harder than Harry and Meghan realise.
