Chinese AI firm Moonshot AI is back with Kimi K3.1 Pro. According to the company, it is built to do complex tasks such as building games, designing 3D models and preparing a financial research report without needing a separate tool. The model comes with a one-million-token context window and improved coding and reasoning capabilities.According to Reuters, Moonshot AI said it had removed cyber-related data from the training material and reinforcement-learning environments used to develop the model. It is an open-weight AI model; this means developers can access a model's trained weights and use them to run or modify the model on their own systems, subject to its licence. The company confirmed that the model will be fully released by November 4, 2026.Kimi K3.1 Pro can build games and 3D modelsMoonshot AI says Kimi K3.1 Pro can work with game engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine and Godot. It can combine coding, web search and 3D generation to build interactive experiences. In one example shared by the company, the model created a battle game featuring a mythical palace floating above clouds, complete with a warrior and a giant dragon. On the other hand, the model can also create 3D designs using text descriptions, sketches or reference images. It can generate objects such as mechanical parts, architectural models and custom furniture, while allowing users to refine their designs. Alongside the model, Moonshot AI has introduced 3D Make on its website and app. Users can preview and edit 3D models, download files for 3D printing, or export their creations as videos and Live Photos.Kimi K3.1 Pro also targets financial research, with the ability to prepare financial models, research presentations and industry reports. A faster version, Kimi K3.1 Pro Highspeed, is also available. Moonshot AI says it runs two to three times faster than the standard model. Why has Moonshot AI limited its cyber capabilities? AI models that can write code and use software tools may also help people find and exploit software vulnerabilities. This has raised concerns among governments and cybersecurity experts about how easily AI could automate parts of a cyberattack.Moonshot AI says it wants to avoid releasing open-weight models that push cyber capabilities to the absolute frontier. The company reported that K3.1 Pro scored 81 per cent on its internal cyber benchmark, compared with 90.5 per cent for a similar version without the risk-reduction measures. The test involved finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities in a controlled environment. These results have not been independently verified. The move highlights a challenge for open-weight AI. Such models allow developers to inspect, modify and run them locally, but once their weights are widely shared, the original company has less control over how they are used.Kimi K3.1 Pro is available through Kimi's website, app, coding tools and API, with the full model weights expected on November 4.- Ends
