KILLER cop Timothy Brehmer, who strangled his lover to death, could be released in just a matter of weeks under Labour’s early release scheme. Timothy Brehmer was caged for ten years and six months for killing Claire Parry after she told his wife about their 10-year affair. PC Timothy Brehmer pictured with his wife Martha Timothy Brehmer sobbed as paramedics treated him following the killing The killer, who was locked up in 2020, could now be let free after serving just half of his sentence. Brehmer, a constable with Dorset Police, had three years added to his sentence by the Court of Appeal after it was found to be unduly lenient. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! He initially lied about his crime, claiming the mum-of-two had died during a “kerfuffle.” Brehmer was cleared of murder and locked up for manslaughter instead in a controversial ruling. Brehmer admitted manslaughter and was cleared of murder but could now be released Claire Parry died in hospital after she was found injured in a pub car park His sentence was increased when judge Lord Burnett said “too little weight” was given to the aggravating features in the horrific case. Brehmer would not have been eligible for parole until 2029 but now he could be let loose among other violent offenders under the government’s early release scheme. He killed mum-of-two Claire Parry after she sent a text from his phone to his wife, saying: “I am cheating on you.” She was left with “unsurvivable brain injuries” after being strangled in the car park of the Horns Inn pub in Dorset, on May 9 and died in hospital the next day. Most read in The Sun On the day of the killing, Brehmer told his wife Martha he was going to pick up some steaks for a family BBQ later that day. Around three hours later, she received a message saying “I am cheating on you” from her husband’s phone. The court was told Claire had sent the text to Martha after growing “angry and upset” with her lover. In the days before her death, Claire had started to believe her marriage was coming to an end as well as her relationship with Brehmer. She discovered the “womanising” cop was having affairs with at least two other women and was dubbed “Mr Smooth” for his string of mistresses. After Brehmer strangled Claire, he broke down as paramedics rushed to the scene. Timothy Brehmer had his sentence increased after it was found to be too ‘lenient’ Brehmer’s wife Martha was sent a text message by Mrs Parry before she died Claire Parry worked as a nurse and was in a relationship with Brehmer for ten years PC Brehmer was 41 when he was jailed Bodycam footage showed the killer, who is now up for release, sobbing: “I’ve f***ed up”. Home affairs spokesman Chris Philp told the Daily Mail: “This vile criminal killed an innocent young woman. “Releasing him early is an insult to her memory and sends a signal that this Labour Government doesn’t take domestic killings and domestic abuse seriously.” The early release scheme is designed to free up space in prison – and could see offenders let out as soon as October. Around 5,000 criminals were due to be released in September but outrage around the scheme saw this delayed. The scheme sparked public fury when it was revealed that thugs Albert Bowers and Jessie Cole were set to be released just half way through their 13-year sentences. Cole and Bowers were jailed in 2020 for newlywed PC Harper’s manslaughter during a theft getaway in Berkshire. More than a million people have signed a petition demanding that the duo — who laughed and sneered during their trial — stay behind bars. Cole and Bowers were both 17 at the time and passengers in the car driven by Henry Long, who was caged for 16 years and not eligible for early release. Now, after weeks of confusion, Andy Burnham has said he is “increasingly confident” a way could be found to prevent the thugs being turned loose. In response to Brehmer’s release, The MoJ said: “We inherited a prison system on the brink of collapse. “We are fixing this by building 14,000 new prison places, expanding electronic tagging and investing in probation services.”
