Kia is crushing it with a full lineup of electric vehicles ranging from entry-level SUVs to the three-row EV9 and PV5 van. A leaked document revealed that Kia plans to add the EV7, a new midsize electric SUV, to fill the gap between the EV6 and the three-row EV9. Kia EV7 is coming as a new midsize electric SUV With 291,219 vehicles sold last month, up 10.3% from October 2025, Kia posted its eighth consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth. Kia said it plans to build on the momentum by focusing on electrified vehicles in key markets, including hybrids in the US and fully electric vehicles in Europe. After launching the EV2 earlier this year, Kia now offers one of the most complete EV lineups, including the EV2, EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6, EV9, and PV5 van. According to a recently leaked document, a new midsize electric SUV will join the lineup. KoreanCarBlog uncovered an internal document from Kia’s Employment Stability Committee that reveals the company’s upcoming production plans. The report claims “production of mid-range electric SUV ‘EV7’ to proceed” at Kia’s Gwangju factory in South Korea. During its 2026 CEO Investor Day in April, Kia announced plans to expand its EV lineup to 14 models by 2030. In Europe, Kia plans for EVs to account for 66% of sales by 2030, with a full lineup that includes the EV2, EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6, EV9, three PBVs, a new C-segment electric SUV, and its first “SDV B-segment hatchback.” Kia reveals plans to launch its first software-defined electric vehicle (Source: Kia) So what can we expect from the upcoming EV7? Kia said earlier this year that it’s developing a new EV platform “to significantly enhance both product performance and cost competitiveness.” Although it didn’t offer specifics, Kia claimed the new EV platform delivers up to a 40% increase in battery capacity and a 9% improvement in motor output. It will use Kia’s fifth-generation batteries, providing up to 15% higher energy density than its current tech. Kia’s upcoming software-defined vehicles (SDVs) are expected to integrate Hyundai’s SDV architecture (CODA), Pleos Connect infotainment system, and Gleo AI, an in-vehicle Agenic AI.They will also have Level 2++ autonomous driving capabilities on highways. The EV5, Kia’s current midsize electric SUV, is 4,615 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,675 mm tall, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, which is about the size of the Sportage, so you can expect the EV7 to be slightly bigger. It will likely be closer in size to the Sorento. Powered by an 81.4 kWh battery, the Kia’s current EV5 offers a WLTP range of up to 329 miles (530 km). As a result, charging the battery from 10% to 80% takes about 30 minutes, rather than 18 to 25 minutes. The upcoming EV7 will likely use the 800V system for faster charging. The document also revealed Kia will begin production of “completely redesigned models” at its Gwangmyeong Factory, including the 2028 Carnival Hybrid and a hydrogen-powered Carnival by 2029. At its Gyeonggi Hwaseong Factory, Kia will reportedly also produce redesigned models, including the Sorento Hybrid in 2028. FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links. More.
