Khloé Kardashian on ‘The Girls’ Future, ‘The Kardashians’ Longevity and Her Sephora Fragrances

Logo text It’s an even busier time than usual for Khloé Kardashian, with the reality TV veteran and businesswoman launching her fragrances in Sephora, filming her family’s reality show, executive producing another and getting ready for a fourth season of her podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land. After visiting Sephora in New York City last week to celebrate the launch of her fragrance collection — XO Blue, Almost Always and XO Khloé — Kardashian sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss the whirlwind of projects she’s juggling, including the expansion of her beauty brand, Season 8 of Hulu‘s The Kardashians and the long-running show’s future. She also opened up about whether she’d be up for another season of The Girls, also on Hulu, after previously telling THR that she “had moments in this where I sort of regretted doing any of this because of the fighting and drama” that comes with working with her best friends. *** Beauty has always been a big part of the Kardashian brand, and you’ve had several fragrances over the years. What feels different or exciting about bringing the fragrance collection to Sephora now? It’s a complete dream to be in Sephora. I don’t even know if any of these were. Obviously, they’re more fantasies and things that I would always hoped would happen, but now that I’m actually living them, it’s just crazy. I’m like, holy cow! And to be global and in Mexico and Brazil and all those Sephoras, it’s just insane. It’s just really processing today because I went to the store today, and I’m like, I’ve been so far. It’s really a big, big accomplishment. What was the store experience like? It was so cool. We went super early at 8 a.m. It’s so surreal to see your product in an actual store. I’m sure people are like, “You should be used to it by now.” But I’m not, and I never want to be. Was there anything that inspired the scents? A memory or a moment? The first one, XO Khloé, I call it my signature scent because I really do think it represents me the most. It’s a lot of white florals, and it has this powdery base to it and that’s something I have always gravitated to. Almost Always has a lot of lavender essence and a lot more notes. Lavender is something I spray on my kids’ pillows every night to relax them and put them to sleep. It’s such a comforting scent to me, so I wanted to lean in. Then, XO Blue is a vacation in a bottle: it’s coconut and transports you to a beach, maybe to a hot man. All of them really do speak to a different piece of me. You have a lot of other exciting projects coming up, like season eight of The Kardashians. Oh gosh, the new season. I can’t believe we’re in season eight. It’s crazy to me. What is happening this season? (Laughs.) (Read more on the upcoming season here.) What does it mean to you that people have stayed with you through all these different eras of your life, with the show resonating for so long? It’s absolutely unbelievable — for people to be on that journey for two decades. It is something that I count my blessings for. But also, I see people and they feel like they know me; it’s not because they feel like that. They do. They’ve grown up with me. I started when I was 22. I’m 42. That’s a lot of formative years on camera where I’m evolving or making mistakes or doing things for the first time where I’m being filmed and followed. So when I have people who feel so opinionated about my life or attached, I get it. We all grew up together. I just don’t know what happened in your household. (Laughs.) But I get why they feel a sense of ownership with me. It’s actually a really beautiful thing, and I do think because of that, people do have a lot of compassion or grace or understanding because they’ve seen not just your highlight reel; they’ve seen the whole reel with me. I think that is why people do stay along for the ride. How much longer are you hoping to do it for? That is such a good question. We always say we want to keep doing it until it’s no longer fun — and if people still want to watch and enjoy, then why not? We have a lot of fun doing it. I love working with my family. I love spending time with them like that. So I don’t have a real end date in my head. Kardashian and Scott Disick in season seven of The Kardashians. Disney There’s also another season of Khloé in Wonder Land coming up. What have you learned from doing the podcast that you’re bringing into the new season? I’m excited for this season because I have more episodes. I can go in so many different directions, and it will make more sense. I love that it’s in Wonder Land because it’s wherever my brain goes. So one day I’m going to want to talk true crime. One day I’m going to want to talk beauty or talk to a celebrity. So you can’t say it’s a beauty and fitness podcast. There’s no real one category. And because I’ve signed on to do so many more episodes — I’m trying to do like 555, so five things on one subject, five on another, and we’ll space them out so they’re not five back to back. But I think that would feed any curiosities that I have. I love the weirdest things, conspiracies, so I get to really dive into that. Even the Lindsay Clancy trial — hearing all of those conspiracies is fascinating, and I get sucked down a rabbit hole really quickly. I didn’t realize I was that person, like the aliens in Miami at the mall — don’t get me started. We last spoke for The Girls and the first season has been out for a few weeks now. How have you felt about the audience response to the show, and would you want to do another season? Good question. Well, I love that the show was so well received. When I was watching the show, I didn’t see Iris, as she sort of gets this bully narrative, and I’m like, what? I love Iris! I don’t see that. But I also know Iris’ story, and she is so funny. She’s so multifaceted, and there’s so much more to her. But she’s also strong, and a no-nonsense girl who works hard. There’s all these things about her that it’s interesting how other people perceived that. So I was like, really? Like when I would see some commentary. It was an interesting opportunity for me. I guess it was hard being the EP and also being their friend. I don’t think I understood how I need to straddle that line, and sometimes I would go to one side more than the other. So it’s a learning curve for me too. I think I would do a season two but it did cause a lot of fighting. Still? No. But I think everyone’s gone to their own corners. After filming, Natalie, Olivia and Nicole are always together. The twins [Malika Haqq, Khadijah Haqq-McCray] and Iris are together, but I don’t know if all six have blended since filming. Have you heard any rumblings of another season? I’ve heard it’s done really well, and that I think Hulu would like to, but I haven’t had any official word.
