Keralam will conduct special recruitment if marginalised sections are inadequately represented in govt. service, says Chief Minister

Keralam Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan The State government will conduct special recruitment if it is found that marginalised sections do not have adequate representation in government service, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has said.The government will examine recruitment made through the Kerala Public Service Commission every three years. Special recruitment will be carried out if backward sections are not adequately represented in the service, he said, inaugurating the 163rd birth anniversary celebrations of social reformer Ayyankali organised here by the Cherama Sambava Development Society (CSDS) on Friday.In the Revised Budget for 2026-27 presented in June, Mr. Satheesan had announced that “special recruitment drives will be conducted to ensure adequate representation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in government service.”Dalit Christians’ plightMr. Satheesan said the UDF government will strive to find solutions to the backwardness faced by Dalit Christians in Keralam. They neither enjoy the privileges of being Christians nor do they get the reservation benefits as Dalits, he said.The Chief Minister also promised CSDS that the college sanctioned to the community organisation when Oommen Chandy was Chief Minister would become a reality soon.Demands for adequate representation of the Dalit community members in top posts in the Devaswom boards, boards and corporations and universities were made in Friday’s meeting.On AyyankaliThe battles undertaken by Ayyankali for equal rights will be remembered as long as Keralam exists, Mr. Satheesan said. The ‘Villuvandi Samaram’ and the ‘Kallumala Samaram’ were important episodes of the social reformation that underscored the importance of equality among all people, he said.
