A 55-year-old man was killed in Keralam's Kochi when a luxury car, allegedly driven by the 17-year-old son of a judge, hit his scooter in the early hours of Sunday. The car, a Mercedes Benz, was found to be registered under the judicial officer's name. The incident took place early morning, between 2 am and 3 am.A video from the accident site showed the car's front section in a mangled state.Citing preliminary findings, the police said that the accused was not drunk at the time of the incident. His blood samples have been collected for further analysis, they added. The victim has been identified as Jayabalakrishnan. The car rammed his scooter from the behind. Following the crash, the 17-year-old driver was taken into police custody. The police have invoked charges relating to reckless driving and causing death by negligence in the matter.Jayabalakrishnan's niece told reporters that he used to run a food stall to make a living and was on his way back home when the accident took place. She claimed that the four-wheeler must have been driven at high speed as her uncle's two-wheeler was badly damaged and the various items he was carrying on it were found scattered all around the scene."He died on the spot," she was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.The woman also claimed that the father of the minor spoke to her in a disrespectful tone at the police station when she questioned him as to why his underage son was allowed to drive the car."We will move forward with the case, especially in view of the judge's attitude. Also, it should be a lesson to everyone not to drive a vehicle without a license," she said.- Ends(With PTI inputs)
