While the video received considerable attention on social media and garnered 129,000 views, a user posted a derogatory comment.The user, identified as ‘ankit_gupta0716’, told Selvaraj, “Aapka haath bht kala hai...mai ni khaunga aapke haath ka,” which translates to, “Your hand is very dark, I won’t eat food cooked by you.”Selvaraj chose not to entertain the comment and instead responded through a savage Instagram post, highlighting some of the prominent guests he has served during his career. “Well, well, this dark-skinned chef has served the following,” he wrote, before listing “a couple of heads of government in India,” “a couple of Presidents of India,” Prince Charles and the King of Belgium.He also mentioned serving “very kind-hearted guests across the globe” and added, “Well, the list is too big; it won’t fit in the description.” See the post here:Speaking exclusively to India Today following his now-viral response, Selvaraj said, “The intent behind sharing the post on social media is to bring awareness that bullying or racist comments will not be taken kindly.”The chef said the post should also serve as an example for fellow creators and those aspiring to become creators, adding that comments or actions of this nature should not be entertained but brought to light so that they are not repeated.“Most importantly, an individual’s skin colour, height, weight or looks should not be a deciding factor in determining what they can be in life,” he added.Karthikeyan Selvaraj, who was born in Tamil Nadu, began his career with the Taj Group of Hotels and has worked across its properties in Chennai, Kochi and Madurai.Apart from his professional career in the hospitality industry, he is also a digital creator and regularly shares recipe videos on Instagram.His Instagram account has more than 818,000 followers, with his content often featuring recipes and cooking-related videos.- EndsPublished On: Sep 9, 2026 13:08 IST
