Kentucky target DeMarcus Henry breaks down eight finalists, decision timeline

Will it be Beckham Black? CJ Rosser? Adan Diggs? Maybe a late push from Cayden Daughtry, thanks to his all-time Peach Jam run? DeMarcus Henry doesn’t want anyone forgetting his production on the Nike EYBL circuit, along with the other high-profile events he stood out in this spring and summer. The five-star wing told KSR at the first live period event he was the best player in 2027 and deserved the No. 1 spot. He feels the same way to close out the AAU season. “I just want to show that on the best player in the country. Every time I step on the floor, it’s just competing at a high level. That’s all I want to show,” he told KSR in North Augusta. “I feel like I’ve been proving that, for sure, just coming out and competing. I’ve been traveling a lot, going to NBPA (Top 100) Camp, USA, JT (Jayson Tatum) Camp. I feel like I’ve been proving it, so I’m just trying to make a case for being the No. 1 player in the country.” Henry says his confidence stems from the all-around nature of his game with the ability to score at all three levels and guard all five positions. He’s got to shoot the ball better and clean up his reads to solidify that No. 1 status, he added, but he’s close enough to join the conversation. Whether he earns the top spot or not, his recruitment certainly reflects that of a top guy. The five-star averaged 19.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest in the EYBL regular season, then followed it up averaging 18.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals at Peach Jam, including two 25-plus-point efforts. After drowning in dozens of offers, he finally had to cut things down to get back above water. His finalists? Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, BYU, Kansas, North Carolina, UConn and Arkansas. Quite the group. “My recruiting, it blew up, but I narrowed down to the top eight. I’m very blessed to be in that position with all those schools, very blessed,” he told KSR. I’m just very grateful for the opportunity from all the coaches for reaching out. (I cut my list) to just calm the noise down — it’s very chaotic with so many different schools, like 30 schools hitting you up. So I’m like, ‘I’m going to just lower it down just to calm everything down.’ I just got it out of the way.” What are his thoughts on the finalists? Henry broke down all eight with KSR, including a thorough breakdown of his Kentucky interest. Kentucky: “Mark Pope, Coach Mo (Williams), they are all just great people. I love what they’re doing with the program. They’re always reaching out, the whole coaching staff. Just reaching out to me, it means a lot hearing from all those guys. It’s such a great program. … They’ve just been saying they believe that they could do the best job with me, and they feel like I’m a priority to them.” Louisville: “Coach (Pat) Kelsey and Coach (Ronnie) Hamilton, Coach (Peyton) Siva, they’re all just reaching out, telling me how much I’m a priority to their program. It means a lot coming from such a legendary program. They’re always just producing pros. That a great school.” Kansas: “It’s a great program with Bill Self. He’s a legendary coach.” North Carolina: I like what UNC is doing. I just love how they produce at a high level. I like what they did with Caleb Wilson. The whole coaching staff, they just be showing love. It’s a great program.” UConn: “It’s a winning program. I mean, I feel like I’m a winner, so I just like how Coach Hurley is running the team. So it’s a great opportunity.” BYU: “I just love their offense, it’s a pro style. I feel like I’d be a force if I go there. It’s a pro-style offense with high-level coaching. I like what they did with AJ (Dybantsa).” Arkansas: “Coach (John) Calipari, he’s producing pros. That’s what he does and he produces at a high level. He likes to let his freshmen rock out, and that means a lot, you know? Coming from a high stature, he just produces. He’s probably the most producing coach. I just love what he’s doing there, for sure.” Ohio State: “You can’t forget them. They’ve probably been recruiting me the longest and always showing love since my freshman year. It means a lot coming from such a big program. My whole family goes there, so it means a lot for them to just keep reaching out to me and just showing love.” Up next? Visits. Those are coming soon, including one to Lexington to meet with Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats. “I want to see all eight schools,” he said. “So right after this, I’m gonna talk to my agent and schedule all the visits between all eight schools.” From there, he plans to go into decision mode — but don’t expect anything too soon. As of now, Henry wants to commit in the spring signing period to see how the season goes and rosters shake out. He’ll be prioritizing family feel and coaches capable of pushing him toward his potential in the NBA. “I’m going to go on my visits and see what everybody’s doing, but really it’s just a school that can push me to be better. That’s the main goal, to just keep growing and growing. I feel like there’s always more room for improvement,” he told KSR. “So whoever will push me to be better and just make me uncomfortable, that’s probably what will stand out the most. “Just a program that’s like — I’m very big on family, so it’s like a family culture where everybody’s close together. It will be a school that helps me strive, help me reach the NBA. That’s really the main thing.”
