Kentucky offers elite 2029 prospect RJ Evans, the son of former NBA player Reggie Evans

It’s been a big week for 2029 recruit RJ Evans. Evans announced on his Instagram page that he has received an offer from the Kentucky Wildcats. A 6-foot-7 guard out of Florida, he is the son of former NBA player Reggie Evans, who spent 13 years in the league (2002-15) with seven different franchises. Kentucky assistant coach Mo Williams is the one who reached out with a scholarship. RJ has spent his week playing for Austin Rivers Elite at the adidas 3SSB championships in Rock Hill, SC. Despite being a rising high school sophomore, he’s playing up two years on the 17U squad. He’s picked up offers this week from Louisville and Ole Miss, too. Providence, NC State, Iowa, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and Miami (FL) have also offered him. While not currently ranked by Rivals or 247Sports, Evans is considered a five-star talent by ESPN and the third-best 2029 prospect in the country. After starting his day scouting at Peach Jam, Williams made the move to 3SSB where he saw Evans in person, ultimately leading to the offer. Evans went for 16 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists on Saturday. Kentucky head coach Mark Pope was also in attendance on Saturday to watch him in action. Here is what KSR’s Brandon Ramsey, who has spent the last two days in Rock Hill watching Evans and other adidas prospects, had to say about Kentucky’s newest target. “Evans is a two-way star that has as much upside as any prospect in the Class of 2029. He is a 6’7” guard who served as Austin Rivers SE Elite 17U’s (he plays up two age divisions) primary ball handler on Saturday. His combination of length, athleticism, and skill is incredibly impressive. The son of former NBA player Reggie Evans, RJ is an absolute star in the making.” Evans joins JJ Crawford, the son of former NBA player Jamal Crawford, as the two 2029 recruits with offers from Kentucky.
