Published Aug 20, 2026, 9:00 PM EDT Karlis has been obsessing over television and movie news since he first learned how to read. He has worked in tech, as a musician, and in journalism with a well-rounded knowledge base of pop-culture throughout the eras. He claims that he has memorized the entire Internet Movie Database, and to date no one has been able to refute this. Holding a Bachelor's Degree in Religion and Culture from Wilfrid Laurier University, Karlis loves to examine the intersections of popular science-fiction and culture. His latest novel MASS. is available now on Amazon and examines a world where obesity has become a federal crime. Keanu Reeves is one of the most likable stars in Hollywood, and while the promise of John Wick: Chapter 5 is exciting, his other big upcoming project has the potential to be even better. Following Reeves' impressive streak of great movies, the actor's future is looking incredibly auspicious, with several solid projects coming soon. Reeves has had a fantastic career full of reinventions. After breaking through in 1989's Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, he quickly became a fantastic action star with starring roles in Speed and Point Break. Already a household name, Reeves' star ascended even higher with the release of one of the best science fiction films, the original The Matrix, in 1999. Since then, Reeves' star power waned for a while before rising to a new apex with the popularity of the John Wick franchise. Those four films, and the excellent From the World of John Wick: Ballerina spinoff, have told a fantastic story with a satisfying ending. Since then, Reeves has voiced Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. That film will get a sequel next year, adding Reeves to another ongoing franchise, even as a fifth John Wick has entered development. Alongside all that, there are two other major projects in the actor's future. One is an adaptation of Reeves' own comic book, BRZRKR, and while little is known about the other, it has enormous potential. Keanu Reeves' Sci-Fi Return Sounds Wild - And Very Exciting Keanu Reeves will soon be returning to original science fiction with the upcoming film Shiver. The movie is being helmed by Deadpool director Tim Miller and was previously reported to center around a smuggler in the Caribbean Sea finding himself in deep trouble. The film is currently set for release on August 13, 2027. The premise sounds strong enough, but recent details have significantly helped to bolster anticipation for the upcoming film. The film was compared to both The Shallows and Edge of Tomorrow, and Reeves helped testify to this in a recent interview. Speaking with Collider, Reeves revealed a very short but effective description of the upcoming film: "Sharks. Time machine. Groundhog Day." While there have been many great time loop movies through the years, the promise of Reeves taking on sharks sounds like the perfect salve for audiences still awaiting a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow. After the success of films like Meg 2: The Trench, it is about time that another big shark blockbuster makes its way to the big screen. Tying this up with an original science fiction premise that is not linked to an existing franchise makes this original film even more promising. Keanu Reeves' John Wick 5 Return Is A Big Risk John Wick died in John Wick: Chapter 4, which is going to make bringing the character back for another franchise installment very difficult. While there are many theories about how John Wick could have survived, the fact is that the latest chapter gave him a conclusive and effective ending that will have to be undone. After the box office success of Chapter 4, is it not surprising that Lionsgate wishes to make another John Wick. However, it cannot be denied that it is a risky move that could hurt the perception of the franchise overall if it is not done well. The prospect of bringing Wick back believably, then telling more stories with him before eventually ending the series once again down the line is a giant risk that may not work out. Especially following the box office disappointment of Ballerina, it is good that Reeves is doing other things. The actor has fantastic charisma, and approaching different kinds of projects through the decades has helped to keep him such a consistently important figure in Hollywood. Whether or not John Wick: Chapter 5 works, it is exciting that Reeves is bringing his star power to features like Shiver. The upcoming shark time-travel movie sounds like a lot of fun, and could wind up being one of 2027's biggest and best hits.
