KDE Remote Desktop Experience Improving For Closing The X11 vs. Wayland Gap

KDE developer David Edmundson is out today with a blog post around improvements that have been ongoing for the Plasma 6.8 release in improving the KDE remote desktop experience. As part of ensuring a good Wayland experience and hitting all the needs fulfilled by X11, Plasma 6.8 is seeing improvements for its remote desktop functionality. Plasma 6.8's remote desktop support is seeing better work on its unattended mode with the remote screens resized to match the size and layout of the client's screen setup, the remote screen dynamically resizing to match the window size, and as the remote session is closed the user logs back into the host machine. The unattended mode enhancements should lead to nice full headless use-cases. KDE Plasma's remote desktop clipboard functionality is also "massively improved" with bi-directional text snippets and preparations for file transfers and the like. Further enhancing the KDE remote desktop experience has been improving the performance with lower latency . Some other KDE remote desktop work includes broadening the RDP compatibility, enabling libei support for emulated input, and other polishing. KDE developers are also looking into multi-user headless support post Plasma 6.8 as well as better standardization.
