Kate Winslet Officially Starring In Netflix’s New Willy Wonka Reboot Next Year

Announced this past April, the upcoming animated movie stars Taika Waititi as Willy Wonka, a role previously played by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp. Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory picks up the story years after the infamous Golden Ticket contest, with Wonka emerging from jail and finding that new generation of "rotten" kids plans to break into his factory to steal his priceless Wonka Bar. Per Netflix, Winslet is now confirmed to be joining Waititi in Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory. Winslet is one of a number of new actors announced for the project, including Nicola Coughlan, Charithra Chandran, Samson Kayo, Christopher Chung, and Helena Bonham Carter. It's not yet clear who Winslet will be playing. Directed by Jared Stern, the upcoming Netflix Animation Studios movie is confirmed to release globally in theaters on November 5, 2027, before then arriving on Netflix on December 22. Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle the film's international rollout. In addition to Waititi, Kit Connor is also confirmed to star in the film, voicing Charlie Paley. Charlie is one of a number of children facing eviction who turns to stealing the Wonka Bar in order to save his home.
