The broadcaster apologised to viewers before being abruptly taken off air during the live ITV show, with another presenter stepping in. Kate, 59, battled a raspy voice as she delivered the Monday morning top news stories, and while she insisted it ‘wasn’t painful’, the issue only seemed to worsen as the programme went on. Eventually, anchor Susanna Reid, 55, informed audiences that Kate had gone home, with journalist Faye Barker taking her place. Before reading the news early on this morning, Kate said, ‘I must apologise to you. And after handing back to Susanna and her co-star, Ed Balls, 59, Kate was quizzed on whether too much partying and singing led to her raspiness. Susanna wondered if it was down to her singing at last week’s National Television Awards in a moment that was declared ‘the campest’ piece of television by viewers. Joining her fellow Celebrity Traitors stars on stage, Kate belted out I Know Him So Well alongside Amanda Holden, 55, Paloma Faith, 45, Charlotte Church, 40, and David Olusoga, 56, as a tribute to comedian Alan Carr, 50, who was honoured with the prestigious special recognition award. Ed also quipped that Kate may have lost her voice due to ‘excessive Saturday night karaoke’, which she denied. I lost my voice on Friday and Saturday night.’ ‘Aled Jones now wants to do a Christmas album with me, and I think, maybe, this is the result of that terror; I don’t know,’ she added. Kate insisted that while her voice sounded ‘really painful to listen to’, it wasn’t causing her any discomfort. Susanna asked for advice on how to deal with a hoarse voice from weather presenter Laura Tobin, 44, who advised ‘hot water, honey, and lemon’, as well as ‘don’t talk’. Laughing, Kate responded: ‘Not in my nature, Laura!’ Alas, Kate’s voice seemed to get the better of her, as just after 7am, Susanna announced that she had left.
