Kashmir model exported to Delhi: Omar Abdullah on internet shutdown before CJP stir

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took a swipe at the Centre over the temporary suspension of mobile internet services in parts of Delhi ahead of the proposed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest on October 10.“Kashmir model has been exported to Delhi. Welcome to the New Delhi, modelled on New Jammu & Kashmir,” he said, referring to the internet shutdowns imposed in Jammu and Kashmir over the years.The Ministry of Home Affairs approved the suspension within a four-kilometre radius of the Janpath-Kartavya Path crossing, from 10 pm on October 9 to 10 pm on October 10.The order, issued under the Telecommunications Act, 2023, covers all mobile internet technologies. Directives were sent to Airtel, Vodafone Idea, Jio and MTNL. The restrictions came after Delhi Police denied permission for the CJP protest demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.Security arrangements also include the closure of 57 metro stations, cancellation of scheduled mail and express trains, and deployment of more than 20,000 security personnel. Border Security Force troops have also been deployed along the Noida-Delhi border.- Ends
