“Captain India,” starring Kartik Aaryan, commences principal photography in London this September, with the shoot expected to wrap by the end of October. The film is directed by Shimit Amin, known for “Chak De! India,” a title that has continued to resonate with audiences years after its 2007 release. “Captain India” is produced by T-Series‘ Bhushan Kumar and Baweja Studios, alongside Dopamine Studios, with S.B. Films handling production. “Captain India” draws on India’s real-life evacuation of citizens from a war-torn country. The screenplay is written by Nash Vazifdar, Sanchit Gupta and Priyadarshee Shrivastava. An ensemble cast is expected to join Aaryan. Popular on Variety Aaryan most recently starred in “Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri” and “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3,” and has “Naagzilla” and other projects currently in the pipeline. Amin, meanwhile, is best known for directing “Chak De! India” and “Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year” (2009), both for Yash Raj Films, and has largely stayed away from feature directing in the years since. He directed an episode of BBC/Netflix’s “A Suitable Boy” (2020). A film titled “Captain India” was first announced in 2021, with Hansal Mehta attached to direct for RSVP’s Ronnie Screwvala and Baweja Studios’ Harman Baweja, who also wrote that version of the script, and Aaryan set to play a pilot involved in the rescue mission. Principal photography was then expected to begin in early 2022. The film is set for release on Aug. 13, 2027, timed to India’s Independence Day weekend. Production on “Captain India” begins Sept. 1.
