Kansas State QB Avery Johnson out vs. Arizona State, Jacob Knuth to start

Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson is out vs. Arizona State Saturday, per On3’s Pete Nakos. Jacob Knuth will get the start against the Sun Devils, who are expected to start Mikey Keene over Cutter Boley. K-State Online’s Derek Young reported the following on Johnson’s condition, stemming from last week: “It did happen on the first drive of the game where he took a tumble after a long run that nearly reached the end zone for a Kansas State touchdown. He remained down on the field and received medical attention at that time. However, Johnson missed just one play. Effects from that contact have lingered and have contributed to his injury designation for the week.” $19.99 gets you a FULL year of On3 | Rivals national coverage In six games this season, Johnson has 1,301 yards, 10 touchdowns, three interceptions and a 63.1% completion percentage. However, he’s only appeared in seven career games and is just 7-of-8 passing for 88 yards and a touchdown. Now, he gets the full-go against the Sun Devils. Young noted this a massive game for first-year coach Collin Klein. Following a win over rival Kansas, the Wildcats want to keep the good vibes rolling and improve their record to 5-2 on the year with a manageable stretch remaining. “We’re going to learn more about the coaching chops of Collin Klein this weekend,” he wrote. “The new Kansas State coach is trying to re-focus and re-calibrate his team following a huge rivalry win that they invested in heavily to win. The Wildcats have lost the game immediately following the Sunflower Showdown win three consecutive times. “Can he pour into his roster enough to grab their attention and help them lock in to avoid a fourth straight loss? At the same time he is going to be devising an offensive plan around a quarterback that is banged up and limited, whoever it might be.”
