‘Kane Chronicles’ Series in Development at Disney+ After Netflix Scrapped Movie

Disney will develop a live-action series adaptation of “Kane Chronicles” at Disney+, expanding Rick Riordan’s mythological universe. The series adaptation comes two years after a film adaptation of the “Percy Jackson” spinoff was scrapped at Netflix. Angela Robinson (“How to Get Away with Murder”) and author Riordan will write and executive produce the drama series with Rebecca Riordan serving as a non-writing EP as well as Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell for The Gotham Group. The upcoming “Kane Chronicles” series follows the estranged Kane siblings as they “master their inherited Egyptian magic, forge unlikely alliances, and rescue their father before warring gods can wreak havoc on our modern world,” according to the series logline. “The Kane Chronicles” is a fantasy trilogy series by Riordan based on Egyptian mythology. The book series takes them on adventures where they are forced to contend with the Egyptian gods and goddesses in the modern world. It specifically follows siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, both powerful magicians and descendants of two pharaohs, Narmer and Ramses the Great. The trilogy includes “The Red Pyramid,” “The Throne of Fire” and “The Serpent’s Shadow.” The series is set in the same universe as Riordan’s other series “Camp Half-Blood Chronicles and Magnus Chase” and “The Gods of Asgard.” Robinson’s career spans across writing, directing and producing. She most recently directed on Netflix’s “Wednesday.” Her other credits include “True Blood,” “How to Get Away With Murder” and “The L Word.” The series will be produced with 20th Television for Disney+. The studio has also produced a live-action adaptation of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” starring Walker Scobell. The series premiered in 2023, and the third season is set to debut in November.
