The defining moment came on fourth-and-15 in the second overtime, when Carlos Hernandez was initially ruled short of the sticks before replay overturned the spot. Lopez scored two plays later and then ran in the game-winning two-point conversion. That game showed plenty of resilience, but it also showed some defensive cracks. Purdue produced 455 total yards, including 329 through the air, while Wake had to survive several late drives. Miami presents a much different challenge.The Hurricanes opened with a 45-6 road win over Stanford before putting up 77 points and a school-record 856 yards against Florida A&M. Miami scored touchdowns on 11 of its first 12 possessions against FAMU, while Darian Mensah completed 14 of 15 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns. Through two games, Mensah is 41-of-45 for 653 yards and eight touchdowns. Malachi Toney has been just as ridiculous. He opened the year with 234 receiving yards and three touchdowns against Stanford, setting a Miami single-game receiving record. He then added 96 yards and another touchdown against Florida A&M. That creates a much more interesting question than simply asking who wins the game.The case for Miami scoring 39 or more pointsThere is an obvious path to another big Miami offensive performance.The Hurricanes have scored 122 points through two games, and they have done it with remarkable efficiency. Mensah has barely missed a throw, Toney has already produced multiple explosive plays and Miami has shown it can score through the air and on the ground. Against Florida A&M alone, the Hurricanes produced 42 first downs and scored on nearly every meaningful possession. Wake Forest is also coming off a game in which Purdue threw for 329 yards and accumulated 455 total yards. That does not automatically mean Miami repeats what it did against Stanford or FAMU, but it does show that Wake can be moved against through the air. If Miami creates a couple of explosive plays early and forces Wake into a faster game, 38.5 can become much more manageable.The case for Miami staying under 38.5 pointsThere is still a legitimate argument on the other side.Wake is 2-0 and has already shown it can survive difficult game scripts. The Demon Deacons forced Akron into a poor start and then showed enough composure to win a road game in double overtime against a Big Ten opponent. This is also Miami’s second road ACC game in three weeks, which is a different environment from beating an FCS opponent at home.There is also the possibility that Miami builds a comfortable lead and takes its foot off the gas. That already happened against Florida A&M, where the game became so lopsided that the teams agreed to shorten the fourth quarter. A 31-7 or 35-10 type of game would still represent a dominant Miami performance while keeping the Hurricanes below 38.5.That is what makes this particular market much more interesting than Miami’s 95¢ game-winner price. The question is not whether Miami is expected to control the matchup.
