Kalamazoo Central (Mich.) offensive trio doing it all for the Maroon Giants

Kalamazoo Central (Mich.) is currently 2-2 on the year, following tonight’s loss to Portage Central (Mich.). However, despite their loss, one senior receiver had a standout night for the Maroon Giants, as Mykell Crayton added to his season touchdown total, with four scores already this year. With Crayton adding to his touchdown total, Kalamazoo Central’s offensive trio of Crayton, Caleb Allen, and Braylen McCoy have all played massive roles this season, taking snaps on both defense and offense. On the night, the Maroons fell in a 42-12 loss, with both scores coming from Crayton. Last season, like most of Kalamazoo Central’s top offensive options, Crayton also took snaps at corner and safety. This season, the receiver opened the year with 5 catches, a touchdown and a pass breakup against Jenison (Mich.), having a career-best year four games into the season. With one of the top offensive line prospects in the state, four-star senior Dewey Young, Kalamazoo Central has produced 841 yards of rushing offense heading into tonight’s game. Meanwhile, the Maroon Giants have also produced 455 yards through the air. Currently, Crayton leads Kalamazzo Central in scoring, with six scores. However, the Maroon Giant’s offensive trio shows up in more than just receiving. During week one of the season, sophomore corner Braylen McCoy put up six solo tackles, with two pass breakups, as well as 72 receiving yards. Transferring from Battle Creek Central (Mich.), the sophomore corner who takes snaps at both receiver and corner put up 55 tackles, 26 solo tackles, 2 interceptions, and a fumble recovery in his Freshman year. The 5’11 athlete currently has an offer from Southern Miss and was named a top performer during Michigan State’s summer camp by Allen Trieu. Alongside McCoy, senior back Caleb Allen has 247 rushing yards this year, averaging 82 yards per game across 3 games. The starting back, Allen also takes snaps on defense, according to HUDL, at safety and linebacker. The senior had his best game of the season last week, with 108 yards and a touchdown against Lakeview (Mich.) Despite falling to a 2-2 record on Friday Night, Kalamazzo Central is still finding pieces on a weekly basis under head coach Terrell Smith, on both sides of the ball. Last season, the Maroon Giants fell in a first-round playoff loss to Howell (Mich.) and were 2-2 at this point in the year.
