Kacey Musgraves Announces New Album Middle of Nowhere, Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes

Kacey Musgraves is taking her love of Tex-Mex music a step further. The country singer has announced Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes, a companion album to Middle of Nowhere featuring four songs performed in Spanish. Set for release on January 15th, 2027, the 16-track project expands on the musical influences explored on Middle of Nowhere, drawing further connections between Musgraves’ Texas roots and Mexican music. The tracklist boasts 11 original songs and five covers, with four songs song entirely in Spanish. Two new tracks from the Tex Mex Tapes are out now: “Weekend In Texas” and Musgraves’ cover of “Mi Tesoro.” The former is a love letter to passing the time — and partying — in her home state, where she has “tequila for breakfast” and can “leave all [her] cares behind.” The latter is a patient, gorgeous rendition of the Norteño classic, with Musgraves’ voice smothered in reverb and a nostalgic glow hanging over the track. Listen to both new songs below. Musgraves is about to conclude her 2026 “Middle of Nowhere Tour” with the last three shows taking place in Oakland and Seattle on October 23rd, 26th, and 27th. We caught her August 31st show at New York’s Madison Square Garden, describing the tour as “warm, weird, and a testament to her star power.” The tour has been supporting Middle of Nowhere, Musgraves’ standout seventh album; we named the project one of the best albums of 2026 so far.
