The former NSYNC star, 45, will appear in the ‘tell-all’ series, which will reportedly detail one of the most infamous moments in music history – the 2004 Super Bowl ‘wardrobe malfunction’ with Janet Jackson. According to reports, the Apple TV series, which is due for release in December, will feature an interview with Jackson. Suit & Tie singer Timberlake will also discuss his turbulent relationship with Britney Spears, reports claim. The series is said to be directed by Fisher Stevens, who directed David Beckham’s 2023 Netflix series. It’s been a tough few years for Timberlake, who was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in 2025. Taking to social media, Justin later revealed his ‘relentlessly debilitating’ diagnosis in the hope doing so would help explain what he’s been battling with behind the scenes. On Instagram, Justin wrote: ‘Well as these two incredible years come to an end and I look forward to the future, I wanted to write something from the heart. It’s not an easy task to try to contextualise the whirlwind of touring – but, I will try. ‘This has been the most fun, emotional, gratifying, physically demanding and, at times, grueling experience. I have been doing this for 30+ years (which feels crazy to say). – and have given all that I have to this. I could not have done it without my family, friends, the TN kids, and all of your support. ‘As many of you know, I’m a pretty private person, but as I’m reflecting on the tour and festival tour – I want to tell you a little bit about what’sgoing on with me. ‘Among other things, I’ve been battling some health issues, and was diagnosed with Lyme Disease – which I don’t say so you feel bad for me – but to shed some light on what I’ve been up against behind the scenes. If you’ve experienced this disease or know someone who has – then you’re aware. What happened at the 2004 Super Bowl? Janet Jackson was headlining the Halftime Show at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, when she introduced Justin Timberlake on stage to perform Rock Your Body. During the performance, which features the lyrics ‘Have you naked by the end of this song’, Timberlake pulled a piece of Jackson’s costume to expose her right breast on live TV. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) fined CBS $550,000 for airing nudity (a fine that dragged through legal battles before eventually being voided years later). It was initially claimed that this was an unplanned wardrobe malfunction, but it sparked a debate that it had been planned as publicity for Timberlake. Jackson unfairly faced the brunt of public backlash, while Timberlake’s solo career continued to flourish. But, at least I could understand why I would be on stage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness. ‘I was faced with a personal decision, stop touring? Or, keep going and figure it out. I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I’m so glad I kept going. ‘Not only did I prove my mental tenacity to myself but I now have so many special moments with all of you that I will never forget. ‘I was reluctant to talk about this because I was always raised to keep something like this to yourself, but I am trying to be more transparent about my struggles so that they aren’t misinterpreted. ‘Sharing all of this with the hope that we can all find a way to be more connected. I’d like to do my part to help others experiencing this disease too.’ He went on to thank all his tour crew and the fans for coming to see him perform, a space which he said was ‘sacred’ to him. The year before Timberlake was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge after police pulled him over for driving through a stop sign and veering onto the wrong side of the road. He ultimately pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
